ADA, Okla. (KTEN) - Coming off of a rough 2022 campaign, East Central University has hired Sunny Golloway as its next head baseball coach.

Golloway has an experienced coaching resume. He helped lead the Oklahoma Sooners to multiple NCAA postseason appearances, including the 2010 College World Series. He then coached at Auburn University for two seasons.

Golloway has not been a college head coach since 2015, but after losing his wife to cancer in 2021, Golloway felt like the East Central job was right for him.

The Tigers went 5-43 this season, only winning three conference games and finished the year on an eight game losing streak.

Golloway knows this job will be a challenge, but it is one that he is looking forward to.

"We've got a long ways to go, we understand that," said Golloway. "It wont be easy but I'm not the kind of guy that I want to be in the helicopter and have you drop me halfway up the mountain. I'm starting at the bottom and we'll work our way up."

"We want to have good-character, skilled athletes," Golloway continued. "If we can get that, we're gonna win a lot of ball games."
