(KTEN) — Like gasoline, the price of diesel fuel is also skyrocketing.

AAA says the national average price for a gallon of diesel is up to $5.56; it's $5.15 in Oklahoma and $5.16 in Texas.

In response, the Biden administration is considering a plan to tap into the nation's emergency diesel reserve, a rarely-used stockpile.

Truck driver Tracey Whitaker with Oakley Trucking is hoping that can help shrink the price at the pump.

"It's just outrageous," he said. "I mean, every time I have to fuel, I'm sitting there looking at the fuel pump, counting the dollars. It's insane, you know? They need to do something about it."

President Biden has asked officials to be ready in case they need to release fuel from the diesel reserve.
