SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — St. Mary's Catholic School is considering a major expansion.

The Sherman institution on Travis Street dates back to 1876, and has grown by 60 percent over the last two years.

Currently, the school offers classes from Pre-K to eighth grade, but with the growth, educators are hoping to add a high school with support from the St. Mary's community.

We want to provide an environment where we're growing scholars and saints," said Principal Danny Ledbetter. "We want to provide a high academic rigor, but also an environment where we can enforce Catholic and Christian values that are important to our families."

Ledbetter added that if the expansion is determined to be feasible, the school plans to start a fundraising campaign next year.
