BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A man's body was recovered from the Red River Monday morning near the Denison Dam. Rescue teams had been searching since Friday for John Franklin Johnson, who was fishing when he was seen seen falling in the water at that location.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the remains were located at 8:25 a.m. Monday in nine feet of water, about 250 yards east of where Johnson had last been seen.

Witnesses said Johnson was on the river below the dam Friday when the generators switched on. He was seen losing his footing and slipping into the turbulent water.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Rangers, the Cartwright Fire Department and other agencies participated in the search.

"It is a team that did it," said OHP Capt. Scott Hampton. "It took everyone involved, and even though we may have been the ones to bot up to him and make recovery, it took everyone involved."

Johnson had last seen east of the dam, where Shawnee Creek empties into the Red River. The body was recovered about 40 yards south of the river's north shore.

Hampton said emergency crews continued their search through the weekend to bring closure to Johnson's family.
