Southeastern softball clinches playoff berth with win over HSU
DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern picked up its fourth-straight win and in the process clinched a berth in the Great American Conference Tournament with a 9-4 win in the series opener versus Henderson State on Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 27-22 overall on the season and 16-12 in GAC play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
Cheyenne Mahy and Jaleigh Durst each went yard in the contest, with Mahy, Durst, and Bailey Beard each posting a pair of hits.
Peyton Streetman, Kamarie Wallace, and Kady Fryrear each added a hit.
Durst accounted for three RBI in the game, while Wallace plated two, with Mahy and Streetman adding one apiece.
Mahy got the start but took a no decision after tossing three innings and allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Amberlyn Walsworth closed out the game to pick up the win, throwing the final four innings and allowing a run on three hits with four K's.
HSU would get on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
The Storm would answer with a solo homer in the bottom of the first from Mahy to cut the gap to 2-1.
SE would knot the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI double by Streetman, and would take the lead when Streetman came around to score when Alexis Lambert reached on an error, taking a 3-2 lead.
The Reddies would tie the game with a run in the top of the third, but a Durst two-run homer would put the Storm back in front 5-3.
HSU would pick up another run to close the gap to 5-4 in the fourth, but the Storm would get back on track in the fifth with Durst singling home Fryrear. Durst would then come home to score when Beard reached on an error, taking a 7-4 lead.
Wallace would close out the Southeastern scoring with a two-run single through the left side to score Keitian Bell and Lambert to set the final at 9-4.
