Sherman High School announced Monday, April 11 that Coach Jake Hodges will join the Bearcats as the boys head basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year.
Hodges, who brings eight years of experience to SHS, most recently served as head varsity assistant coach and U.S. History teacher at McKinney North High School. He has also coached basketball for The Colony High School and Plano Senior High School.
Hodges said that he’s watched the Bearcat program develop during his time at McKinney North, and was always impressed by how respectful and well-mannered the players were.
“I always remember walking off the floor and thinking they were good kids,” he said. “SHS has kids that are talented and there’s so much potential in the program.”
Hodges said he was excited to begin aligning the boys basketball program through middle school athletics and into Sherman High School. The tradition and history of the area and the growth it's experiencing also appealed to him.
“With the new high school facility, you can tell that the community is really embracing the growth and the change and doing what’s best for the kids,” he said, adding that one of his first priorities will be building relationships with students and the community.
“I want what’s best for all Sherman ISD students. I’m going to hold them to high standards, but I want what’s best for them. We’re going to pay attention to details, we’re going to work hard, and we’re going to grow as people in pursuit of winning basketball games.”
Athletic Director Bob Jones said that Hodges has an exciting vision for the SHS boys basketball program.
“We are excited about Coach Hodges’ energy, knowledge and experience, and we can’t wait to get his whole family here to join the Bearcat family.”
