JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said a Butcher Pen man is behind bars after allegedly threatening his neighbors with a sword on Saturday night.

When police arrived, they found the suspect identified as Shane Upchurch standing by his neighbor's driveway before running from police with the sword.

Investigators said Upchurch then ran to his house and threw the weapon inside.

"Deputies gave verbal commands at gunpoint and had to physically take him into custody," the sheriff's office said in a written statement. "Based upon deputies' observations, the suspect appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine."

Upchurch faces multiple charges, including two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, threatening acts of violence, and obstruction.

A sword was recovered from the suspect's home.

Johnston County deputies said they recovered this sword from the home of Shane Upchurch.
