VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN) — A new housing development headed to the fast-growing Van Alstyne area  has raised some concerns within the city.

Megatel is planning to build on Farmington Road, but the city says the lot sizes are too small.

"We are in discussions with that particular developer, Megatel, hoping we can get a development that closer resembles for what we would like to see in Van Alstyne, said City Manager Lane Jones.

The developers have also applied for a new wastewater treatment facility, but Van Alstyne isn't sure that it's necessary.

"If the right agreement can be reached and the right kind of development can happen on that particular site, the city can provide both water and wastewater services to the development," Jones said.

With 4,000 new homes and 2,000 new apartments on the way, Maria Grimmett is wondering how this will impact her.

"It is a little scary being a long-time resident because we are growing at such a phenomenal rate and because we do worry sometimes about the... I guess the logistics that would go in with it," she said.

But Corey Colton, owner of Van Alstyne Nutrition, believes the fast-paced growth only adds value to the city.

"When it comes down to the growth of Van Alstyne, I'm excited for it," he said. "On the business aspect, just because I get to impact more people and I get to meet more people. More people get to come to the community and just have growth."

The city hopes to meet with the developer on April 14 to find a solution.
