DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) — SG Blocks has purchased 114 acres of land in Durant to expand its existing factory space and add hundreds of apartments to the city's housing inventory.

Durant officials have been working with the fast-growing company since last year on its plan to repurpose the agricultural land.

"They had a need to expand immediately," said Durant Industrial Authority executive director Lisa Taylor. "They currently have two facilities here in Durant; this 114 acres will be the site of their third."

SG Blocks plans to add manufacturing facilities and apartments to this 114-acre site in Durant.

SG Blocks, which designs and builds modular structures, plans to add factory space as well as at least 300 apartments to the site.

"Not only are they bringing additional quality jobs to the residents of Durant, Oklahoma; they are bringing the much-needed housing component to that," said Taylor. "Housing is in dire need all over; not just Durant, but all over our region."

This location will be near the Choctaw Casino and the tribal headquarters. Taylor said after the pandemic there was more focus on business retention and expansion, and she said SG Blocks is the perfect example for that.

The company said the deal is expected to close within the next 90 days.
