CARTER COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A North Carolina truck driver was killed late Thursday afternoon when his vehicle skidded off Interstate 35 near Ardmore.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Austin Ludwyck said Samuel D. Jim, 31, was headed northbound on the ice-covered highway when he lost control of the Freightliner M2 bucket truck about 1.5 miles south of Ardmore at 4:30 p.m.

Jim — who was not wearing a seat belt — was thrown from the vehicle, which landed on top of him when it flipped on its side. He died at the scene.

A passenger, 23-year-old Billy A. Wilson of Webster Springs, West Virginia, was injured and was reported in stable condition at an Ardmore hospital.

Ludwyck said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
