Wreaths Across America ceremony set for Wynnewood
WYNNEWOOD, Okla., (KTEN) — Deceased veterans will be honored Saturday at Wreaths Across America events.
During the ceremony, wreaths are placed at veterans’ grave sites as a way to remember those who served our country.
Luann Sewell Waters, an event coordinator at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, said anyone is welcome to attend the ceremony Saturday at noon and help place the wreaths.
“We have 720 wreaths to lay tomorrow, so the more people that come and participate — and for them to realize that a town no larger than Wynnewood has that many veterans — and that’s just in this one cemetery,“ she said.
Waters added that she looks forward to seeing the community come together to honor military personnel.
"It really is done by the community," she said. "Our Boy Scout troop is our color guard; a graduate of Wynnewood High School who is now at East Central comes back is our trumpeter,” she said. “Pretty much everyone that is involved... if they don't still live in Wynnewood, they have a connection to Wynnewood."
There will also be ceremonies in Wynnewood at Oak Grove and Hopewell cemeteries.
