(KTEN) — Driving through Oklahoma? The Department of Transportation’s Drive Safe Oklahoma app can help motorists plan for weather or traffic that may impact your route.

Inside the app, you'll find updates on delays due to construction zones, crashes, or congestion.

Earlier this year, ODOT added features and updated the app.

"We definitely want motorists — whether they are Oklahomans or passing through — to have the latest tools and technology at their fingertips to help them navigate our work zones and traffic slowdowns," said ODOT spokeswoman Lisa Shearer-Salim.

Truck driver Michael Landers has felt the impact of increased traffic during the holidays.

"It's horrible," he said. "These trucks weigh 80,000 pounds fully loaded, so traffic is really hard... especially when people don't give us the respect that we need to control what we have in these boxes."

Drive Safe maps show the speed of traffic flow, information about construction zones, and weather conditions.

"When I see congestion somewhere, I can veer off and go another route," Landers said.

ODOT encourages drivers to check the Drive Safe app before getting on the road to avoid delays and arrive at their destination safely.

"Especially along I-35, this app is very helpful for travelers heading that way either south or north to check if there are delays due to crashes or slowdowns from work zones, " Salim said.

The app also offers several other features, including messages from nearby traffic road signs and current camera footage in some locations.
