DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) — Texoma's own Reba McEntire revealed Friday night that she plans to open a restaurant in downtown Atoka.

The singing star made the announcement during her first full show since March 2020 at the Choctaw Resort and Casino in Durant.

McEntire said she's excited about the business opportunity that will benefit the economy in her own backyard. She said the restaurant is expected to open at the end of 2022.

McEntire, her boyfriend Rex Lynn, and other members of her team were inspecting a building in downtown Atoka on September 15 when a stairway in the three-story brick building collapsed. Firefighters had to use a ladder to get them to safety.

Reba is following in the footsteps of another Texoma country star who's widely known on a first-name basis. Earlier this month, Blake Shelton announced plans  for his fifth Ole Red dining and entertainment concept in Las Vegas. The original opened in Tishomingo, followed by locations in Nashville and Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Orlando, Florida.
