Johnston County EMS dealing with sinkholes
TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KTEN) -- Johnston County Emergency Management is asking motorists to share the GPS coordinates of any sinkholes they encounter so emergency crews can make repairs.
Workers have been out on the roads trying to patch up any holes since the winter storm's snowfall melted. Johnston County EMS responded to a large sinkhole in Tishomingo and dumped about four truckloads of gravel into the void to make it level with the rest of the road.
EMS director Jason Bryant said there have been four sinkholes in Johnston County identified by staffers, some of which are up to 70 feet across.
"As you look, it's hard to tell that there was a sinkhole here, because they've already freshly graded it again," he said. "At this time, it looks like the sinkhole isn't sinking anymore, but time will tell."
Along with the severe weather, Bryant said small earthquakes in the surrounding area may have played a role in creating those holes across Johnston County.
