When will your third stimulus check come through?
DENISON, Texas (KTEN) -- The House Budget Committee voted earlier this week to approve President Biden's nearly $2 trillion relief package.
The proposal includes a third stimulus check to qualifying Americans.
"I think the country is in enough debt," said Martha Canipe. "We don't need to do anything else to put ourselves in more debt."
Texomans are divided on whether they think the COVID relief bill should pass. Texas Rep. Pat Fallon (R-4th District), says the measure doesn't pass muster.
"The reason why I'm voting 'no' is when 91 percent of these monies are going to other projects, you're not being truthful with the real purpose behind this massive spending," Fallon said.
If the bill is approved by the Senate, it would be a $1.9 trillion COVID plan that includes $1,400 stimulus checks. The particulars of the plan are still unclear to some Texomans.
"I would vote 'yes,' but I would also like to know what all is involved in it," said a woman who identified herself only as Penelope. "What other stipulations are going on, and what else they will be supporting in it as well."
While there's general support for helping those in need, Fallon believes this plan is not the way to accomplish that.
"The economy is starting to show signs of strong recovery, and the best way for us to help the people we represent is to open the economy back up," the lawmaker said. "The way to do that is focus on vaccination production and distribution."
If the Senate approves the relief plan and makes any changes to the bill, it would then have to go back to the House for approval.
President Biden said he wants the COVID relief bill to be approved by March 14.
If Congress can maintain that schedule, relief checks would start going out in late March or early April.
