Night of prayer for missing Sherman 14-year-old
SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- Giana Smith, 14, went missing from her Sherman home on February 17. Her disappearance shocked everyone who knew her.
On Thursday evening, friends and family members gathered at Victory Life Church in Sherman to pray for Giana's safe return home.
The day before Giana went missing, she attended a Zoom meeting with her church because she was getting involved with a new program.
"Zoom meetings are kind of awkward already a lot of the time, so it was probably me talking most of the time," said Kayla Massey, Giana's youth pastor at Victory Life Church. "But she was bubbly, talkative... I didn't feel like anything was off or strange from that."
At the beginning of February, Giana was admitted to an inpatient program for depression and anxiety, but her mom, Manda Turner, said it isn't like her daughter to not talk to her.
"We are, like, each other's point of communication," Turner said. "When she does struggle, she comes to me directly, and the fact that she hasn't contacted me... her phone's been off since the 17th... that just gives me such a... a pit in my stomach."
Turner said there is video footage of Giana walking in their apartment complex the night she went missing. Police have not released that video.
The teen's mom said the footage confirms that Giana was last seen wearing a black jacket and T-shirt, leggings, and pink rain boots. Giana may also be carrying a small backpack.
"I want her to know that any time, any second, whatever, contact me. I will get you wherever, whatever time," Turner said.
Sherman Police are actively searching for Giana, and ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact them immediately.
