SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- Kristof Cappoen made two trips -- 15 hours each way -- to bring donations to Grayson County.

"I love driving, and I love serving, and I love Texas," he said.

In 2019 Cappoen's home town of Dayton, Ohio, was hit by tornadoes and Texans were the first to step in and help.

So when Cappoen watched winter weather devastate the Lone Star State, he knew what he had to do.

The supplies he brought arrived at the perfect time, as Sherman continues to rebound from power outages, limited water, and damage from the brutal winter storms.

"For us, the opportunity to get some bottled water is great because we go through a lot at Four Rivers and we haven't been able to find much," said Bob Rhoden of Four Rivers Outreach.

The donations from Declare Church helped far more than just Four Rivers Outreach.

"We documented all of that and put it out and this group came to our rescue," said Stephanie Chandler with the United Way of Grayson County. "By Friday we will have met every need on our non-profit needs list."

Those donations included 2,600 blankets for Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center and 5,000 bottles of water.
