FEMA offering winter storm relief in Texoma counties
(KTEN) -- People living in Cooke, Fannin and Grayson counties who suffered losses in the wake of last week's winter storms can now apply for federal disaster assistance.
FEMA will not pay for abnormally high energy bills or for insurance deductibles; their grants apply to damages that make a home unlivable.
One KTEN viewer in Denison shared photos capturing the aftermath of flooding underneath their home caused by several pipes that burst. They have since spent more than $33,000 to re-level the house and replace all windows and siding. They have filed reports and are waiting to hear back from FEMA
For those who haven't applied for assistance yet;
- File damage claims with your insurance company first; FEMA may be able to assist with anything not covered
- Document all damages with photos and videos
- Keep records of all receipts for any additional expenses
The Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends that anyone seeking assistance apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, but you can also contact FEMA at 800-621-3362 for more information. Applicants must provide the following information:
- a phone number
- the address where the damage occurred
- where you are currently staying
- your Social Security number
- a general list of damage and losses
- insurance information, if any
