Storm impact: Texans get extra time to file taxes

(KTEN) -- The Internal Revenue Service has granted Texans an extra two months to file their federal taxes this year due to the impact of last week's winter storm.
The April 15 deadline for individual and business tax returns has been extended to June 15 for all 254 Texas counties.
"Affected taxpayers that have an estimated income tax payment originally due on or after February 11, 2021, and before June 15, 2021 are postponed through June 15, 2021 [and] will not be subject to penalties for failure to pay estimated tax installments as long as such payments are paid on or before June 15, 2021," the IRS said in a statement.
In addition, Texans who suffered disaster-related losses this month can claim the loss on their 2020 returns if they choose.
