DENISON, Texas (KTEN ) -- Denison police are investigating a Sunday evening shooting that left a man hospitalized.

Police spokesperson Lt. Mike Eppler said the gunfire took place near the intersection of East Main Street and South Seventh Avenue around 6:30 p.m.  The unnamed victim had been shot in the chest.

"The victim was conscious and alert and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment," Eppler said in a written statement. "This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the general public."
