DENISON, Texas (KTEN) -- Boil orders continue to pile up across Texoma as water utilities reel from the impact of this week's winter storm.

The Grayson County Health Department clarified Thursday that restaurants can operate under a boil order.

Best Burger Barn in Denison is one of the few eateries that opened for business on Thursday.

The Health Department issued emergency guidance, explaining to KTEN that because not everyone is able to cook at home right now, they want to ensure people have access to food.

"We boil the water for our sinks to wash our pots and to wash our hands," said Burger Barn general manager Joshua Sharkey. "We've been boiling water all day, it seems like."

Best Burger Barn also made the switch to canned and bottled drinks and single-use utensils and plates to conserve the water they do have.

When their open sign lit up, people filled the tables.

"We've had like an hour wait," Sharkey said. "It's been packed, it's been... it's been a madhouse!"

Many were guests ready to get out of the house after enduring a week of winter storms, power outages, and having no water.

"We actually went to a friend's house that had water... we got to take our first showers in five days," said customer Mike Springer. "To be out here, in a place like this, where we know we're safe and to have a good meal, and to be away from the four walls of our cabin... it's great!"
