SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- The City of Sherman told KTEN News on Thursday evening that more than 210,000 gallons of water are entering the municipal water system each hour after icy winter weather shut down the treatment plant.

Several neighborhoods reported their water has returned.

While the city's treatment plant is up and running, it will take some time for everyone to see water service restored in their neighborhoods.

Sherman Mayor David Plyler is asking residents who still have no tap water to be patient. And once service is restored, it will still be necessary to boil it before consumption.

"The water system is pressuring up,"  Plyler said. "I understand in south Sherman we are doing a little bit better right now as we speak."

Even with the water pressure improving, the mayor wants to make clear the boil notice has not been lifted.

"The chemical lines are what froze causing this situation in the first place," the mayor said. "So really boil your water and be safe about it."

While the wait for clean water continued, a local business stepped in to help.

"We stopped beer production," said 903 Brewery owner Jeremy Roberts. "It took us about two hours to switch lines and then we started running water."

Sherman's 903 Brewers shifted production from canned beer to canned water.

The brewery packaged more than 900 cases of water,  which was distributed for free at Sherman's municipal building.

"This is a life and death matter, right?" Roberts asked. "And so for me to sit here and say 'We can't do it because we need to save it for us?' That's selfish."

While this has provided temporary help, with the Sherman water plant back up and running, a more permanent fix is on the way.
