Winter storm forces Tishomingo hospital to shut down

TISHOMINGO, Okla (KTEN) -- Mercy Hospital in Tishomingo closed Tuesday morning after an emergency power generator failed.
Tishomingo EMS acted quickly and was able to transfer all seven patients to hospitals in surrounding counties.
"We got them out before the hospital got cold," said EMS director Kenneth Power. "We met with the hospital administration and they determined they were going to close the hospital, and then we made plans to go to Madill as our primary. It's 15 miles away, something like that."
When Tishomingo receives any 911 calls that requires someone to go to the hospital, those patients will now be taken to AllianceHealth in Madill.
"When you have plans, you can write down anything you want to, but when the real thing happens it's not chaotic... you're just trying to put everything together," Power said. "Everything fell together. We got them out before the hospital got cold."
