Power outages shut down convenience stores
DENISON, Texas (KTEN) -- Power outages took a toll on convenience stores in Sherman and Denison.
"Most of our convenience stores are open in the Sherman area," Brad Douglass of Douglass Distributing said. "Denison is a little sketchy in terms of what is there."
Douglass said they have plenty of gasoline for their stores, just no electricity to fuel the pumps.
For drivers in Denison, it was a quest to find a way to fill their tank. QT near Gateway Village saw lines of cars at the pumps.
"Where we live, there was no electricity so no way to get gas," said Jamie Swindell. "I was just leaving work and figured I might as well stop and get some."
Some were not on the hunt for gas but a different type of fuel.
Dozens of people flocked to the Valero at U.S. 82 and U.S. 75 for propane to cook and heat their homes.
"The uncertainty is worse than the actual outages," Gary Hawthorn said.
QT was also one of the few places to grab a bite Tuesday after a boil water advisory hit parts of Texoma.
"We're having to go to Kroger to get things to make sandwiches," Larry Robertson told KTEN News. "Whataburger, Taco Bell, everybody down there is closed."
For those places that were open, it was still a struggle.
"he electrical power would go off, it would crash our electronics, so when the power would come back on we would literally have to reprogram anything that wasn't on battery backup," Douglass said.
That boil water advisory also shut down some services at convenience stores that could stay open.
Sources told KTEN News Tuesday afternoon that QT facility ran out of regular and premium gasoline.
Power has been restored to some convenience stores.
