Power outage backup plans for people who rely on oxygen

DURANT, Okla (KTEN) -- For some people losing power could be life threatening.
People who rely on oxygen tanks to breathe also rely on their electricity to give them that ability.
Rolling blackouts are happening all across Texoma, and electricity companies work hard to provide a backup plan for those who can't live without it.
"We encourage them to have backups themselves," said Jim Coleman, who works for Southeastern Electric Co-Op in Durant, OK. "There's battery backups, there's small generators that they can utilize to prepare for the worst. Once they have learned from us what the duration potential of the outage is, we do recommend them to call family or friends to assist them in some type of backup plan."
Coleman said when there is a planned maintenance on power lines, the will give customers a couple days notice in advance.
