North Texas counties bracing for more vaccines
BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) -- Texas received 400,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week.
Fannin, Cooke, Lamar and Grayson counties are all gearing up for vaccine clinics this week.
Health officials will be getting hundreds of shots, and they say if you're on the wait list, you're going to want to make sure you're ready to answer their call.
"When people call into the call center, they get a series of questions and personnel tell them to save that number," Fannin County Emergency Manager Troy Hudson said. "That's the number that's going to call them back for the day and the time they're going to get their vaccination."
If you miss their call, you might miss your turn.
"That person that we did not reach will be called back the next time we get the next round of vaccines," Hudson said.
With nearly 4,000 people on Fannin County's wait list, there are plans to inoculate 500 people at their clinic this week.
Grayson County's wait list of more than 8,000 is prepared to receive 400 doses, and in Cooke County, 600 shots are on the way.
"That is ensuring us that we're getting the vaccinations out to that population, because we're not just serving the citizens of Fannin county, we're serving surrounding areas," Hudson said.
More vaccinations are resulting in fewer coronavirus cases. Since mid January, Cooke County's average active case count has decreased by 100. Grayson County's active totals have also plummeted. And Fannin County continues to put up some of the lowest coronavirus numbers across Texoma.
Hudson reminds everyone that these vaccination clinics are by appointment only.
