Sherman, September 3, 2008 - Workforce Solutions Texoma and KTEN Television announced today that the team selection process for The Biggest Loser: Texoma has been completed, with ten five-member teams selected for the contest. These ten teams will be presenting the following employers: Integris Family Medicine, Red River Regional Hospital, Durant Medical Supply, Wastequip, Big Five Community Services, Ruiz Foods, CIGNA Healthcare, Grayson County College, Lynncore Medgroup, and Austin College. Contestants will be completing their first official weigh-in at the end of this week, and the fourteen-week contest will officially begin. The team with the highest number of points, based on percent of weight lost and other points earned through fitness challenges, at the end of the contest will be declared the winning team. Contestants will be competing for a prize package worth over $2,000.
Contest organizers were excited about the positive response to the contest, receiving applications for more than 80 teams. Teresa Foster, Chief Financial Officer at Workforce Solutions Texoma and coordinator of the initiative, states "We weren't sure how many applications we would get, and were pleasantly surprised. Because we are working off of a zero dollar budget with our sponsors graciously providing everything we are offering to the contestants (t-shirts, gym memberships, nutrition and fitness classes, etc.) we could only host a limited number of teams and made the final selection through a random drawing." She adds that the goal of this initiative is to help create a healthier workforce in Texoma, and the committee hopes this contest will be a small spark that lights a much larger fire. They may already be on their way to meeting that goal. Several companies have informed Mrs. Foster that, even though they were not selected for this contest, they are looking forward to continuing the momentum begun with the Biggest Loser: Texoma application process by holding a similar weight-loss challenge of their own.
KTEN Television will be featuring the Biggest Loser: Texoma in its new segment Health Connections. In the line-up will be interviews with healthcare professionals, spotlights on contestants, and weekly updates on which team is in the lead. Biggest Loser: Texoma fans will also be able to track their favorite team on-line. The website is also planned to feature team photos, weekly leader updates, streaming video, and a message board.
