Texas Man Takes Home $700,000 from The River River Poker Championship wraps up at WinStar World Casino
THACKERVILLE, OK - A Richardson Texas man took home the championship bracelet and the winning prize in Winstar World Casino's $3 million guaranteed "The River" Poker Championship Sunday, August 23. Jim Carroll cashed $700,000 for his first place finish in a field of 1,450 entrants and also took home a custom-made $20,000 bracelet for his play.
"I knew I could win it!" Carroll explained when asked if he expected to win. "The staff was great, the tournament was well run and it all gave me a good feeling."
Carroll took first over poker professional Young Cho after a vicious thirty minute battle. They entered into heads up virtually even in chips and it ended after Carroll hit top pair and caught Cho in an all-in bluff.
"He's a better player than me," said Carroll. "So, I knew I had to change it up. I felt good about that hand."
Young Cho of Enid, OK took second place in the tourney taking home $365,000 and Rudy, Arkansas native Bob Poole took home $213,000 for the third place prize.
"The River" Poker Championship held a series of satellites and mega-satellites leading up to the main event. These mini-tournaments are being televised in Oklahoma, the Dallas/Fort Worth area on as well as more than 90 million households across the US and 8 additional countries. WFAA (channel 8) and KFDW (Channel 52) serve as flagships for a network including Comcast, Direct TV, DISH, Cox Sports, TW Sports and Altitude Sports. The shows also airs internationally in the following countries: Japan, Russia, Venezuela, Brazil, Central America, Argentina/Uruguay, Paraguay, Romania, Turkey, South Korea, Pakistan Philippines, France, Switzerland.
Professional players such as TJ Cloutier, Kido Pham, Tex Barch, and Dr. Bruce Van Horn all came in for a piece of the action while Greg Raymer and Annie Duke served as commentators to the The River TV series.
