Charges filed Today in Assault of TV Cameraman:

An Oklahoma City news crew was covering the story of the attack of an Ada woman killed by area dogs back on October 15.  While covering this story, TV cameraman Bryon Akerman, age 26, was filming the scene where Rosalie Bivins was killed.

During this TV filming, several friends and family members of Rosalie Bivins had gathered at her house.  Some of these relatives got into a verbal dispute with the TV news crew over their filming and requested them to leave.

During the course of this dispute an unknown assailant approached Akerman and punched him several times in the face which caused him to have a bloody nose.  The assailant then fled the scene before PCSO deputies arrived.

PCSO Lieutenant Arnold Scott took an initial report and began a criminal investigation into this attack.  After several weeks of interviewing witnesses and area informants, PCSO deputies submitted a photo lineup in which the victim was able to identify his attacker as Johnnie Levi Byrd, age 21, from Ada.

On November 21, Undersheriff Joe Glover and Officer Hugh Odom interviewed Levi Byrd about the attack.  During this questioning Levi Byrd admitted to striking Akerman in the face.

Levi Byrd is set to appear before Judge John David Miller in the Pontotoc County District Court on 12-04-2007 at 1:30pm.  Byrd is charged with one count of assault and battery.
