NOAA updates 2023 summer outlook
(KTEN) – With the start of meteorological summer on June 1, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released an update to their 2023 summer outlook.
NOAA is calling for an above average summer in terms of temperatures. It appears that we could have some pretty hot days ahead, according to the outlook. Some triple digit days could be ahead.
NOAA is also calling for equal chances of above or below average precipitation during the summer months. Beneficial rainfall is needed to keep us out of any drought conditions, which is what we hope to avoid this year. Last summer featured a notable drought that all Texoma ranchers suffered from all summer long.
In terms of drought, conditions look to stay roughly the same through August, according to the Climate Prediction Center. This does not leave out the potential for a drought to form over the summer with a lack of rainfall.
