LOVE COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — Northbound traffic on Interstate 35 was stymied for three hours Friday afternoon after an accident involving an 18-wheeler, a recreational vehicle and a sport utility vehicle.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash happened at mile marker 14 in Love County, south of Marietta, around 1:20 p.m.

California motorist Roger Hilburn, 71, was behind the wheel of the RV that was towing an SUV when, OHP said, he failed to slow down and rear-ended the semi-trailer.  Hilburn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two helicopter ambulances were called to the scene to treat a passenger in the RV along with two occupants of the big rig.

The northbound lanes of the freeway were backed up all the way to the Red River bridge as emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage. OHP reported all northbound lanes had reopened at 4:20 p.m.
