ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) -- Park Dental Research in Ardmore is using 3-D printers to manufacture face shields for medical personnel on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

"It prints layer by layer, and takes about 23 minutes to print," technician Troy Hardee said.

Park Dental typically specializes in printing dental implants, but the company shifted its focus after the COVID-19 pandemic emerged.

"Our day-to-day operations have kind of changed up a little bit as far as supporting needs and sales,” systems ,anager Cory Dickens said. “So we figured this would be a good time to do what we can... take our time and our resources and just put it towards the cause here."

Park Dental will be shipping the masks out to health care workers in places like New York and California, where the need is most urgent.

"We're actually headquartered in New York City, so that's where we saw that’s where we were going to be able to help out most,” Dickens said. “With that being the epicenter of our COVID-19, we figured that was a good opportunity for us to help them out up there."

Now making 500 face shields every day, they expect to reach their goal of 15,000 within two to three weeks.
