SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- Grayson County was dealing with a new cyber security threat on Monday.

As a result, the public will experience outages when trying to contact the county by phone, email, or online.

The county said it asked the State of Texas Department of Information Resources for help after learning that several computers were infected with "ransomware" on Monday morning. That software is designed to block access to data until a "ransom" is paid to unlock the information.

Late Monday afternoon, the county issued a statement saying its government computer network will "remain isolated out of an abundance of caution."

All public safety services like 911, jail management, law enforcement, and emergency services are fully functional. Early voting and the Super Tuesday election process is not impacted by the outage.
