CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- Carter County voters on Tuesday rejected a proposed property tax hike to create an emergency medical district.

It means Carter County Commissioners will have to find a new provider to fill the void if funding levels prevent Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service from continuing to operate.

Here are the unofficial results from Oklahoma's State Election Board, with all precincts reporting:

AGAINST: 1,545
FOR:     1,389

SOAS currently serves patients in Carter and eastern Jefferson counties. It was established in 1962.
