SHERMAN, Texas -- Sherman police said a man and a woman were found dead after their sport utility vehicle crashed.

Police said they had been alerted early Saturday morning that Evan and Sarah Nuessner never reached their destination on their way to McKinney from Fayetteville, Arkansas.

A caller alerted authorities to a gray Ford Edge SUV matching the description of the missing couple's vehicle in a culvert on the US 75 access road across the highway from Bearcat Stadium around 11 a.m.

"Upon arrival, it was determined the vehicle located in the culvert was the same vehicle officers were searching for the previous night," said police spokesman Sgt. Brett Mullen in a written statement. "One deceased male, Evan Nuessner, was located inside the vehicle."

Mullen said police launched a "large scale recovery effort" to locate Sarah Nuessner, who had been traveling with her husband.

Her body was found around 11 a.m. Sunday morning in Post Oak Creek, several miles from the crash site, police said.
