POTTSBORO, Texas -- Pottsboro middle schoolers are learning how to manage their money.

The 8th graders experienced a "reality check" Friday to help plan for life after school and being smart with their finances.

Students were given a career and a salary; they then made choices about housing, phone plans, and donating to charity.

Is this too soon to work on making such monumental decisions? Educators say they're looking at the bigger picture.

"Actually, by the time people get to high school, their patterns are set," said Dianne Connery of the Pottsboro Library. "We want to reach them earlier, so they can start making changes they need to at this age before they get into high school."
