Due to his unmatched and undefeated track record, Canelo Alvarez is considered the best boxer in the world, on a pound-for-pound basis. This is an incredible achievement considering he is still relatively young at 29 years old, with a career that is still very much on the rise.

At present, Alvarez is the world’s middleweight champion and the best in his league. This ranking system is operated on a lineal system. This means that the current champion is ranked in terms of whoever beat the last champion. This makes for a very competitive and high-stake boxing match culture, creating much hype around current world champions. But this is not to say that Alvarez is not deserving of this.

Previous to this championship, he also held the WBC middleweight title, the WBC light middleweight title, and others.

Contrary to what many people may think, Alvarez had no intention of becoming a professional boxer. But this all changed very quickly after the age of 15 when he won the junior national championship. In his first 19-months as a professional boxer, Alvarez recorded 11 knockouts out of the 13 matches he participated in. The fate of his career was sealed.
