SHERMAN, Texas -- Christmas is almost here, and for a lot of people it's a time for family and holiday cheer.

But for many seniors, it can be a season filled with loneliness. But Home Instead Senior Care is here to help.

For the past 14 years, the organization has collected holiday presents for seniors across the region with its Be a Santa to a Senior campaign.

"A simple gift insures that these seniors are loved and cherished by the Texoma community," said Tim Dungan of Home Instead Senior Care.

The presents on senior wish lists include basic necessities.

"Toothpaste, or bath towels, or hand cloths," said Shawn Teamann of Nautilus Family Fitness. "I feel very strongly that this is such an important ministry and give-back opportunity in the community."

Sometimes, it's the only gift these seniors will receive.

"They are just overwhelmed with joy that someone cares about them," Dungan said. "It's very humbling for me, because these are very basic gifts... things we take for granted every single day."

This year, there are 152 seniors in need of some holiday cheer.

"It's one of those things that warms your heart, because the gifts are going to a good place, and people who really have those needs," Teamann said.
