Sherman Council continues teen curfew rules

Posted: Updated:

SHERMAN, Texas -- It was kids versus parents as the Sherman City Council considered the topic of teen curfew laws.

The Council voted Monday evening to extend current curfew rules.

Sunday through Thursday, children under 17 must be home by 11 p.m. and remain there until 6 a.m. the next day.

On Friday and Saturday, young people must be home by midnight. Exceptions include employment or running errands for parents.

There were 33 citations under the ordinance last year.

"I have teenagers," said Sherman dad Ivan Tolbert.  "I also have one older who would definitely want to stay out past 11, but my 14-year-old, 15-year-old, 16-year-old -- they should be in the house by 11, especially during the week."

The City Council reconsiders the curfew ordinance every three years.
