Denison Stingerettes to perform in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Posted: Updated:

DENISON, Texas -- On any given Friday night, you're probably more focused on the action on the field than in the stands, but this week, the spotlight will be focused on the ladies in the Munson Stadium stands.

"I'm honestly just excited to be in New York. I've never gone" said senior lieutenant Addi Sparks.

Yes, you heard that right: The Stingerettes are in the Big Apple because they were handpicked to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

"We sent in a video and they picked us because we're the Stingerettes," senior lieutenant Hailee Blasingame said. "We have such a good drill team and everyone knows us with how poised we are and how excellent we are, and it's not a surprise to anyone, but it's such a big deal because we have such a great community to back us up."

"I actually found out my sophomore year, so I have had all of this built up energy since then," Sparks added. "I was just so happy that Miss Mitchell always talked about doing it since we made the team, and then when she told us that we were finally going to be able to go we were just all so excited!"

On top of going to school and performing at all of the Yellow Jacket games this year, the team has also had to learn dances before departing for New York.

"We've been up here like we always have been at 6 a.m. for practicing this dance and making it perfect, because it has to be perfect by the time we get there, because we have to do it with 600 other girls," Sparks said.

And even though they'll have lots of rehearsals, the teens have lots of free time to explore the city, too.

"I'm excited for the friendships I'm going to find there," Blasingame said. "I know we do a lot with the other dancers there, and it's going to be a great meeting point for everyone."

The parade will be broadcast nationally by NBC, and you can watch the Stingerettes on Thanksgiving morning starting at 10 a.m. on KTEN.
