PAULS VALLEY, Okla. -- Voters in Pauls Valley approved a $23 million bond issue in 2018, and the school district is now putting those funds to good use.

"We have four phases to this bond issue, the first being our largest: The $13 million new elementary school that's not 50 percent complete," Superintendent Mike Martin said.

Pauls Valley Public Schools now has three new projects in the works, including an agriculture education classroom and a new building for the high school band.

With the growth of the band program, they've had to practice in the school's auditorium.

"For us to have our own rehearsal space every day is going to be awesome for our students, and instrument storage is another really big thing," said Band Director Drew Etheredge.

There are also renovations coming to the high school gym, which include repairs to the ceiling, air conditioning, and bleachers.

"The gym is where everybody comes," said boys basketball coach Gary Chaffin. "People come from every community. It's where we play; we wrestle in here; they have tumbling. So if it's nice, everybody wants to come in here."

Pauls Valley schools will have a bit of a break in big projects once these are complete, but the future could hold other major upgrades.

"There's room in the land we purchased to put our new elementary on," Martin said. "We could also address maybe one of our other elementary sites, building a building to replace it."

The new elementary school should be complete in October 2020, and the other projects could be complete before that.
