Sherman man dead in US 75 crash

Posted: Updated:

SHERMAN, Texas -- A Sherman man died early Wednesday morning when his car crashed into a work convoy.

Sherman police said the accident happened in the northbound lanes of US 75 just south of the US 82 intersection shortly after midnight.

A vehicle driven by 48-year-old James Allen Mihalakis II hit the back of an "impact attenuator" truck diverting traffic away from the work crew. Mihalakis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries; no other construction workers were hurt.

"Approaching construction scenes, you need to pay attention to all the signage and anything that's being told to you through light boards or warning signs about certain lanes you need to be in, lane closures and certain speeds you need to be driving," said Sherman police spokesman Sgt. Brett Mullen. ""You need to obey all of those to make sure everyone is safe."

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
