SHERMAN, Texas -- Fights at Sherman High School Tuesday led to an increased police presence on campus.

School officials said eight students were involved; one of them was arrested.

Sherman Independent School District Superintendent Dr. David Hicks said emails were sent throughout the day updating parents about the situation. The campus saw increased security, with officers monitoring halls and classrooms.

"I want our parents to know we communicate all of the information we have when we have it," Hicks said. "This was an incredibly complex investigation, and we don't want to report misinformation, so while it may seem incomplete, it's not it's everything that we know."

Administrators said students encouraging the fight on social media helped fuel the confrontations.
