SHERMAN, Texas -- Lots of new homes are coming to Sherman, but it's more than you might think.

There's been a 354 percent increase in residential permits since last October -- surging from 14 to 59.

The biggest concentration of new housing is along FM 1417, near the site of the new Sherman High School.

"All across south, west, east, north Sherman, you see houses not only being torn down and rebuilt, but residential lots that were once sitting vacant for many many years now being built on and redevelopment happening all throughout the city, so it's very exciting," said Deputy Mayor Shawn Teamann.

He notes that those new residential developments are expected to also bring more retail shops and restaurants to the city.
