Oklahoma loosens restrictions on liquor store entry

Posted: Updated:

DURANT, Okla. -- The signs that prohibit anyone under age 21 from entering an Oklahoma liquor store will soon be removed.

Starting Friday, anyone under that age will be permitted to go in, as long as they're accompanied by a parent or guardian of legal age.

Lisa Caviglia of Big Daddy's Discount Liquor offered one example of how the change would benefit her customers.

"The parents who drive up in their cars and have to leave the car running with their children in it, then they have to run in here really fast and pick up their supply. The pro would be they don't have to leave their children in their cars anymore," she said.

There is concern with knowing if the adult is a parent or legal guardian; Caviglia said there is no way of really knowing.
