SHERMAN, Texas -- Sherman police are hosting the department's annual Fright Fest on the Municipal Lawn Thursday evening.

Your costumed kiddos will be able to enjoy music, fun and free candy.

But if you and the gang of goblins plan on hitting the streets tor treats, here are some tips:

  • only go to neighborhoods you're familiar with
  • take children out in groups
  • carry flashlights
  • check candy packaging for any tears or unusual appearance
  • make sure drivers can always see trick-or-treaters

"We just have shiny orange things we'll put on their costume, so that if a car comes or something it'll reflect the light and they're easily visible," said mom Kristen Davis.

Sherman police encourage parents and children to come out to Fright Fest from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at 400 North Rusk Street, behind Bearcat Stadium; they say it's a safer alternative to trick-or-treating.
