Memorial service set for former Choctaw Nation Chief

DURANT, Okla. -- A public memorial service for former Choctaw Nation Chief Greg Pyle is set for Saturday, November 2.

Pyle passed away on Saturday. He was 70 years old.

Chief Gary Batton proclaimed a National Day of Mourning across the Choctaw Nation on Saturday in Pyle's honor.

A graduate of Hugo High School, Pyle served 17 years as Chief of the Choctaw Nation.  He had been Assistant Chief for 13 years prior to that.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.

Pyle is survived by his wife Patti, two children and eight grandchildren.

Flags in the Choctaw Nation will be displayed at half-staff for 30 days as a mark of respect.
