SHERMAN, Texas -- A Sherman man will never see the outside of a prison after being convicted of continuous sexual abuse of children.

Jerry Lynn Turner, 67, sexually assaulted his two step-granddaughters. His sentence: 50 years.

Grayson County District Attorney J. Brett Smith said it was a "good day for justice."

Turner's wife walked in on a May 2018 incident with one of the children -- a five-year-old. Turner claimed to her that he was "expressing his love" for the child.

An older sister told investigators she had also been sexually abused.

"The two little girls are true heroes, and some of the bravest I have ever met," Assistant District Attorney Don Hoover said in a written statement. "They suffered abuse from someone they trusted and had the courage to come forward, give statements, and even testify in open court. They are great examples of courage.”

The district attorney's offices said Turner will serve his 50-year sentence without the possibility of parole.
