KINGSTON, Okla. -- One of the biggest bass tournaments in the region is heading to Texoma.

The Bass Champs Team Championship event brings in hundreds of competitors, and this year will be no different.

"They're having their championship here on Lake Texoma," said Pointe Vista manager Ryan Chapman. "They'll be coming out of Catfish Bay Marina and the state park. As of last count there's about 250 boats in the event; there's more signing up this week."

That's not only good for the lake resorts, but the impact will be felt throughout Marshall County. As the weekend progresses, more and more tourism dollars will keep flowing in.

"They spend the night in our motels; they eat at our restaurants; they buy gas, ice and everything else," said District 3 Commissioner Chris Duroy. "It's always a big boost for our economy when these big tournaments come in here like this."

Even with colder weather expected this weekend, there are no plans for the tournament to slow down. In fact, it could make it even more entertaining.

"These cold fronts and different weather patterns, they will affect the fishing," Duroy said. "The guys that are really good at it, they will still be good at it. The ones who struggle at it, they may struggle a little bit. It's not going to be easy, which makes for a good tournament."

Commissioners believe tournaments like this aren't only good for short-term growth, but long-term as well. The more events they're able to host, the better things will get around the lake.

"This is a great facility, this is a great lake," Duroy said. "We need to do our part and improve it so these fishermen can come in here and spend their money and things."

Practice will continue through Friday. The competition is on Saturday and Sunday.
