Madill offers drive-thru flu shots

MADILL, Okla. -- Flu season is starting to ramp up in parts of Texoma.

The Madill Health Department had a drive-thru flu vaccine clinic on Thursday. Nurses and doctors said while there are ways to prevent the flu, getting a shot is the first line of defense.

"It's just real important," said registered nurse Brooke Pruitt. "Besides hand-washing, staying home when you're sick, and covering your cough, you absolutely need a flu shot."

Mercy Hospital in Ardmore usually sees an increased number of patients during flu season, and they believe this year won't be any different.

People may still be at risk of getting the virus even once winter is over.

"Last year I think we peaked at the end of January, that first week in February, but it can extend out into the spring months," said nursing clinical coordinator Clay Roberts.
